Organisation Bio: Transparency International Portugal is an independent and non-profit public utility organisation whose mission is to fight corruption, promote transparency, good governance, and defend human rights and democratic values.
TI Portugal represents
Transparency International in Portugal, it is also accredited as a Non-Governmental Organization for Development (NGDO), is the Civil Society Contact Point of the
Community of Democracies, a member of the
Tax Justice Network,
the Whistleblowing International Network, the
UNCAC Coalition,
the Open Government Partnership Portugal, the
Open Spending EU Coalition, and the
Think Tank – Fraud Risks European Union Financial Resources.
In all its civic activity, the association promotes civic participation, access to information, transparency of decision-making processes, effective regulation of systems, and the integrity of organizations.
Work on whistleblowing: Whistleblower protection has been one of the strategic priorities for TI Portugal. TI Portugal carries out advocacy activities to improve whistleblower protection in the country. For example, TI Portugal is one of the partners in the Safe for Whistleblowers project, funded by the European Union and implemented by Transparency International. This project aims to support the creation of an environment conducive to the protection of whistleblowers in the European Union, with a focus on the Czech Republic, France, Ireland, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Portugal and Slovakia. In addition, TI Portugal is a part of the PAOLA project (The Pandora Box of Whistleblowing in Academia), which has been dedicated to exploring the phenomenon of whistleblowing in academia and highlighting its importance. This project also aims to create an Observatory of Whistleblowing in Academia, promoting a culture of integrity in academia and contributing to the development of prevention and protection policies, in line with the principles of the European Whistleblowing Directive.
