Our friends at Scottish PEN and the NUJ are holding an event to help shape defamation law reform and protect the rights of everyone in Scotland to speak out and speak up. This event, held in partnership between Scottish PEN with the National Union of Journalists, will outline the case for reform, what needs to change and explore a range of reforms that can improve the law and Scotland’s commitment to free expression.
Speakers will include investigative journalist, Martyn McLaughlin of the Scotsman and Scotland on Sunday whose coverage of the US President, Donald Trump has led him to being called "knowingly dishonest" by Eric Trump; Freelance journalist for The National, The Ferret and others, and Nicola Barry 2019 award winner, Karin Goodwin; Scottish Green Party MSP and defender in a recent high profile defamation action, Andy Wightman MSP; and Paulo Quadros who has been threatened with defamation action for his work as a community facebook group moderator in Strathaven.
