WIN's Board of Trustees has joined Xnet and other Spanish colleagues, in writing a separate open letter to the EU Commission calling for an amendment to the Official Spanish Translation of the EU Directive to protect reporting persons ("whistleblowers").

We urge the EU Commission to replace the terms denunciante and denuncer with alertador and alerta respectively. The terms denunciante and denuncer are pre-existing terms defined under Spanish law, which conflict with the EU Directive. Alertador and alerta are preferred by Spanish civil society organisations as a more legally accurate and culturally appropriate terminology for whistleblowing; which is already becoming recognised within the Spanish legal lexicon.
