On Tuesday, March 4th, 2025, the 18th Regional Meeting for Members and Affiliates of the UNCAC Coalition will bring together experts, civil society organisations, and key stakeholders to discuss the protection of whistleblowers and other reporting persons in Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC).
Whistleblowers are crucial in exposing corruption, promoting transparency, and ensuring accountability. However, in LAC, they continue to face significant risks, including retaliation, harassment, and even threats to their lives. Despite international frameworks such as the UNCAC and the Inter-American Convention against Corruption (IACAC), many countries still lack effective protection mechanisms and legal frameworks to safeguard those who report wrongdoing.
Jorge MartÃnez Rivera, Director of Whistleblower Chile, will be one of the featured speakers, contributing insights on the state of whistleblower protection in the region and strategies for strengthening safeguards.
Whistleblower Chile is an academic project to disseminate whistleblowing in Chile, sponsored by the U.S. organization Government Accountability Project and Whistleblower International Network.
