The International Bar Association is hosting a webinar on Whistleblowing and Whistleblower Protections in the COVID-19 Era co-organised by the IBA’s Legal Policy & Research Unit, Anti-Corruption Committee and the Employment and Industrial Relations Law Committee.

Whistleblowers have been a prominent feature of the ongoing Covid-19 crisis. However, attempts have been made to silence these voices and numerous doctors and nurses have lost their jobs for speaking up. This reality sits uneasily with efforts made in recent years to implement robust whistleblower protection laws in many jurisdictions. Are these protections sufficient? Will Covid-19 inspire new whistleblowing legislation? What has the crisis taught us to date about whistleblowing and whistleblower protections in the modern era? Join the International Bar Association for this timely interactive webinar.

Featuring a panel discussion moderated by Kieran Penders, Senior Legal Advisor, Legal Policy & Research Unit, IBA, speakers include:

  • Patrick L Benaroche, Senior Vice-Chair, IBA Employment and Industrial Relations Law Committee and Stikeman Elliott, Montreal
  • Anna Myers, Executive Director, Whistleblowing International Network, Glasgow
  • Schona Jolly QC, Cloisters Chambers, London
Following the panel, there will be a brief presentation on the IBA’s forthcoming report – developed in collaboration with the Government Accountability Project – assessing the effectiveness of whistleblower protection laws across the globe by Tom Devine, Legal Director, Government Accountability Project and Samantha Feinstein, Deputy Director, International Programme, Government Accountability Project.

The webinar will be held on the 28th of May between 13:00-14:00 BST. For more details and registration, please see here.
