Environmental NGO
Climate Whistleblowers has announced the publication of
GreenFakes, a major global investigative series launching February 17-21, 2025. The series is based on hundreds of documents revealing how environmental auditing firms water down assessments they perform for some of the top multinational companies in energy and finance to legitimise dangerous and destructive activities and mislead the public worldwide.
Climate Whistleblowers partnered with journalists from
Mediapart (France),
Africa Uncensored (Kenya) and
Mongabay (United States) to contribute to GreenFakes by investigating these audit cases.
The purpose of environmental audits, when conducted properly, is to ensure that industrial projects do not cause irreversible environmental damage. Unfortunately, the auditing industry operates with little to no regulation, allowing firms to set their own rules and prioritise corporate interests over environmental protection.
