Understanding Whistleblower Protection: Laws, Practices, Trends and Key Implementation Considerations, a new report jointly published by IFAC and CPA Canada.

The new report Understanding Whistleblower Protection: Laws, Practices, Trends and Key Implementation Considerations published on 12th December 2023 and written by WIN's Executive Director Anna Myers, aims to provide important insights to professional accountancy organisations (PAOs), professional accountants, relevant authorities, and policymakers globally regarding the current issues in adopting and implementing whistleblower protection legislation. The report also highlights key policy considerations that can help ensure that local frameworks are fit for purpose.

“People do not act simply because someone tells them that it is safe to do so, they speak up when they think it will make a difference,” says Anna Myers.  “I think this report is really important because it pulls together the lessons that the experts in WIN and our partners - who range from unions, professional associations, to academics, regulatory and enforcement bodies and whistleblowers themselves - have learned over many years about how best to protect whistleblowers.”

This report builds on the research done by the International Bar Association and the Government Accountability Project in 2021, Are Whistleblowing Laws Working? A Global Study of Whistleblower Protection Litigation.
