WIN’s Executive Director, Anna Myers, is honoured to join the Steering Committee of the Coalition against SLAPPs in Europe (CASE) as the representative of the Legal Working Group.

Strategic Lawsuits Against Public Participation (SLAPPs) attempt to intimidate and silence journalists, whistleblowers and activists through lengthy and expensive litigation that drains a target’s resources and chills critical voices.

CASE is made up of NGOs from across Europe who work to expose legal harassment and intimidation, protect the rights of those who speak out, and advocate for comprehensive protective measures and reform.

Anna is delighted to continue to support the coalition as a member of the steering committee to ensure the role of whistleblowers is part of this important anti-SLAPP work across Europe and beyond:

“It is a delight to work with such capable and dedicated people and organisations who are calling power to account and ensuring that the public continues to have access to vital information that affects their lives.  SLAPP suits are just one way the powerful abuse the law to try to hide their actions from public view and to avoid being held to account for their conduct. CASE has done so much already to raise awareness of the problem and now we are working to turn that momentum into concrete change.”

The CASE Steering Committee includes:

Flutura Kusari – Senior Legal advisor, European Centre for Press Media Freedom
Veronika Feicht - Consultant for Agricultural Policy, Munich Environmental Institute
Sarah Clarke – Head of Europe & Central Asia Team, Article 19
Charlie Holt – Legal Counsel for Campaigns, Green Peace International
Anna Myers – Executive Director, WIN

On behalf of CASE’s mission to monitor the impact of SLAPPs on freedom of expression and access to public interest information across Europe WIN would like to hear from whistleblowers and their lawyers who have been targets of SLAPPs. We are collecting information on these lawsuits involving whistleblowers to contribute to on-going anti-SLAPP research and to support advocacy around ending SLAPP suits - email info@whistleblowingnetwork.org.

You can find out more about anti-SLAPP reform and CASE’s work on their website.
